Everest edges Marshfield Chaparrals, 10-8

SCHOFIELD – The Everest Merchants scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge the Marshfield Chaparrals 10-8 in amateur baseball action Tuesday at Simon Field.

Marshfield rallied from a 5-1 deficit to take an 8-5 lead with a six-run fourth inning.

Everest responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and the game remained tied at 8-8 until the Merchants plated two in the eighth against Chaparrals reliever Justin Rayburn.

Kyle McHugh had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs, and Lucius Messerschmidt had a pair of hits and two RBIs for the Chaparrals (3-2).

Adam Olson pitched five scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for Everest (4-2).

Marshfield is back in action Wednesday with a home game against Waupaca starting at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
