Marshfield Junior Legion loses to Plover in regional championship

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team’s season came to an end one win short of the state tournament after a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Plover in the regional championship game Saturday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Demons finish the season with a 22-13-1 record.

After beating Stevens Point 5-3 in the opener Thursday, Marshfield lost to Plover 7-4 on Friday before coming back to beat Rothschild-Schofield-Weston 2-1 later that day.

On Saturday, Plover edged the Blue Demons 1-0.

Marshfield left 11 men on base in the loss to Plover on Friday. Mitch Susa pitched a complete game, suffering the loss.

Trevor Schwecke had a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead Marshfield to the 2-1 win over RSW.

Sam Klein had the game-tying RBI with a single that scored Matt Meyer. Jeremy Brost scored the winning run on Schwecke’s single.

Jeremy Binder threw all seven innings, striking out eight to earn the victory for the Blue Demons.

Plover scored the championship game’s only run on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Marshfield.

Schwecke threw a complete game for Marshfield, striking out eight in six innings. The Blue Demons left nine men on base.
