Superior thumps Marshfield girls basketball in season opener

SUPERIOR – Superior outscored Marshfield by 26 points in the first half and the Tigers couldn’t recover, losing 71-38 in the girls basketball season opener for both teams Saturday night at Superior High School.

Superior led 19-6 after the first quarter and 37-11 at halftime in the nonconference matchup.

Caitlin Michaelis had 11 points to top the Tigers.

Hailey Kontny had 26 points for Superior.

Marshfield hosts La Crosse Central on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Marshfield High School. The Tigers travel to Stevens Point on Friday for a girls-boys doubleheader to open their Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games on Friday will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and online at wdlbwosq.com.
