LA CROSSE – Stratford had nine wrestlers finish in the top 12 in their respective weight classes to win the Division 3 team title at the Bi-State Wrestling Classic, which was held Friday and Saturday at the La Crosse Civic Center.
The Tigers piled up 236 points to outlast Lancaster, which had 169.
Auburndale was 10th in Division 3 with 72 points, and Marshfield took sixth in Division 1 with 152 points. Holmen won the D-1 title with 215 points.
Marshfield’s Tristan Wilson had the best finish among the area athletes, taking second at 285 pounds. Wilson was pinned by Hunter Hauser of Holmen in 1:55 of the championship match and falls to 18-3 this season.
Anthony Gliniecki, Dondrick Tackes and Hunter Kauffman had Stratford’s top finishes, each taking third.
Gliniecki (18-1) won the third-place match at 113 pounds, beating Clay Lieber of Nekoosa/Port Edwards 15-11.
Tackes won the 195-pound third-place match over Dan Dorner of Luxemburg-Cascot, 8-5, to improve to 14-1.
Kauffman (18-1) won a major decision 10-2 in the 220-pound third-place match.
Mitch Hertel took third for Marshfield at 152 pounds. He defeated Wyatt Weiler of Auburndale 5-1 in the third-place match to move to 20-2. Weiler drops to 14-3 and had the Apaches’ best finish of the tournament.
