Marshfield boys basketball edges Merrill in overtime

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys basketball team overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to force overtime and came away with a 54-51 victory over Merrill on Tuesday night at The Boson Company Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

Merrill led 27-17 at halftime before the Tigers began to chip away. Marshfield outscored Merrill 13-5 in the third quarter and 14-12 in the fourth to tie the game, then held a 10-7 advantage in overtime to prevail and win its third straight game.

Marshfield improves to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, and remains one-game behind first-place Stevens Point in the standings. Merrill is now 7-7 and 2-4 in the conference.

Luke Zuiker scored 22 points and grabbed six rebounds for Marshfield. Matt Oestreich added 16 points and five assists.

The Tigers play at Wausau West on Friday. The game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com beginning with a pregame show at 7:10 p.m.
