Auburndale boys basketball blasts Marathon in battle of top two Marawood South teams

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale raced out to a 15-point lead by halftime and rolled to a 49-31 win over Marathon in a battle of the top two teams in the Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball standings.

The Apaches led 26-11 at the break and closed out the win by holding Marathon to 20 points in the second half.

Auburndale is now 15-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the Marawood South, opening up a two-game lead over Marathon (11-5, 8-2 Marawood South) and a 2½-game advantage over Wausau Newman Catholic.

Blake Anderson scored 18 points, making 3 of 10 3-pointers, in the win for Auburndale. He also tied for the team-high with five rebounds.

Isaac Castellano added six points and six assists, and Zach Staats had six points and five rebounds for the Apaches.

Only four players scored for Marathon. Ethan Seubert led the way with 10 points. Xavier Lechleitner added six points and 11 rebounds.

Auburndale’s next game is Tuesday at Wausau Newman Catholic.
