Auburndale boys basketball surges past Bonduel in WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale outscored Bonduel by 14 points over the middle two quarters and went on to a 46-31 victory in a WIAA Division 4 boys basketball regional semifinal Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Bonduel led 11-10 after the first quarter before the Apaches ripped off a 17-6 second quarter to take a 10-point lead at halftime.

Auburndale expanded its lead to 17 after three quarters and hung on from there.

Alex Marth scored 10 points, Josh VanShoick added nine and Zach Staats chipped in with eight for Auburndale.

Trevor Pederson had nine points to top Bonduel (11-13).

The Apaches (22-1) host Marawood Conference South Division rival Marathon (18-6) in a Division 4 regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday. Marathon beat Crandon 50-35 in a regional semifinal on Friday.

Auburndale defeated Marathon twice during a two-week stretch this season. The Apaches won at home 49-31 on Jan. 31 and 52-44 at Marathon on Feb. 13. Those two losses are Marathon’s only blemishes in its last 11 games.
