TOMAH – Darian Molter had a hat trick, including the winning goal in overtime, to lift the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Tomah in the season-opener for both teams on Tuesday.

Molter tied the score with a goal off an assist from Macie Staab at the 25:51 mark of the first half, and put the Tigers had with an unassisted goal 7:12 later.

Tomah tied the game just before halftime and the score held until Molter scored on an assist from Molly Field 8:05 into overtime.

Kailey Hubler had 11 saves in goal for Marshfield, which was outshot 12-9.

“For the first game outside it was nice to get a win, but we learned quite a bit about our team,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We have not been outside, so getting on grass outside really helped the new players and a few freshmen playing their first varsity game saw the speed and physical play is much different.”

Marshfield plays at Onalaska on Friday.
