MENOMONIE – Menomonie’s Katie LaBuda outdueled a trio of Marshfield pitchers, sending the Tigers softball team to a 4-0 defeat in a nonconference game Friday.

LaBuda limited Marshfield (1-2) to three hits and struck out with without walking a batter in tossing the shutout.

Menomonie (3-2) scored two runs in the first inning and one more in the third off Marshfield pitcher Caitlyn Kozik.

Miranda Baierl allowed one run in two innings and Kayla Kluge tossed a scoreless sixth inning for the Tigers.

“Our defense played really well and all three of our pitchers threw very well,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Playing a team that really hits the ball – they beat us 27-0 in the first game of a doubleheader last year – we did a lot better job of keeping them off balance and keeping them off the bases. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do anything against LaBuda.”

Marshfield plays at Wisconsin Rapids in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Monday and plays at Wausau East on Tuesday.
