WISCONSIN DELLS – The Marshfield boys golf team started its season by finishing in a tie for eighth in the Division 1 portion of the Wisconsin Dells Invitational.

Marshfield shot a 339 to tie Sun Prairie and Kimberly for eighth at Portage Country Club on Friday. Play at Coldwater Canyon on Saturday was rained out and all scores for the day were erased.

Josh Berres led Marshfield with an 81, Kyle Hoffman shot an 84, Craig Serchen fired an 85, Ian Pillai had an 89 and Branden Nikolai shot a 94 for the Tigers.

“For the first time stepping onto a course this year I was pleased with the way our team hit the ball,” Marshfield coach Paul Foegen said. “We struggled with our short game, but our scoring will get better once we get some practice time to work on our putting and chipping.”

Middleton and Lakeville North (Minn.) tied for first place with scores of 304.
