TOMAH – Mary Kloos had a two-RBI single in a three-run sixth inning to propel the Marshfield softball team to a 3-1 win over Tomah in a nonconference matchup Thursday.

With two outs and runners on first and third, Lexi Dupee singles home Miranda Baierl and after a walk, Kloos ripped a single to right field to score two more and put the Tigers up 3-1.

Tomah tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh. Kayla Kluge walked two runners and was replaced by Caitlyn Kozik, who walked another to load the bases. Kozik earned the save after getting a groundout to Kloos at second base to end the threat.

“We’ve really been stressing making contact and we did that tonight with nine hits,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “We were more patient at the plate with five walks and only two strikeouts, and it paid off with us getting more hits.”

Baierl tossed four hitless innings before giving up an unearned run in the fifth that gave Tomah (1-2) a 1-0 lead. Baierl earned the win with the Tigers’ rally in the sixth. She struck out four and walked one.

Baierl, Dupee, Kloos and Katie Treankler each had two hits for Marshfield (2-2).

Marshfield is set to open its Wisconsin Valley Conference season Monday at Wisconsin Rapids.
