CHIPPEWA FALLS – Darian Molter scored all three of Marshfield’s goals, including one with 10:46 remaining that tied the game, and after a scoreless overtime the Tigers had to settle for a 3-3 tie with Chippewa Falls in a nonconference girls soccer match Thursday.

Marshfield (3-0-1) fell behind 2-0 before Molter scored on a penalty kick at 29:40 and added another off an assist from Julia Urban 3:02 later to tie the game at 2-2.

The Cardinals quickly regained the lead on a goal by Bridget Konwinski with 3:20 to go in the first half and that score held until Molter tied it late in the second half.

Molter has 10 goals in four games this season for the Tigers.

Marshfield outshot Chippewa Falls 17-7, but couldn’t get another one by Cardinals’ goalie Sam Smith, who had five saves.

Kailey Hubler had four saves and Andrea Carolfi added one save for the Tigers.

“Chippewa was very opportunistic on their shots and did benefit from a few lapses on the defensive end,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We have had occasions where the lapses have not hurt us but tonight they were magnified in a close game.

“On a positive, in the second half the defensive players tightened up things and the goalies responded with a better half. Their focus and determination was much better. “

Marshfield plays at D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
