Marshfield’s Elena Deets qualifies for youth gymnastics regional in Idaho

MARSHFIELD – Elena Deets, a sixth-grader in the Marshfield School District’s Virtual Program and daughter of Tim and Cheryl Deets, recently qualified for the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Western Championships in Boise, Idaho, on May 2-3.

Deets, who competes for the Twin City Twister in Champlin, Minn., had an all-around score of 36.500 to finish ninth in the Junior A division of the USAG Level 9 Regional Championship held April 11-13 in Fargo, N.D. She won the Junior A division silver medal on the balance beam with a score of 9.700, and finished fifth in the vault, and 12th in the uneven bars. The top 12 Region IV all-around gymnasts in each of the eight age divisions qualify for the Western Championships and compete as a team against gymnasts from the other three western regions.

Deets also is a member of the Twin City Twisters Level 9 team that finished first at the Minnesota State Optional Gymnastics Meet in Minneapolis on March 22-23.

Her top scores during the season are 9.700 in the balance beam, 9.125 in the vault, 9.350 in the floor exercise, 9.450 in the uneven bars, and 36.975 in the all-around.
