WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids pitcher Allison Brost limited Marshfield to five hits and didn’t walk a batter in tossing a 5-0 shutout of the Tigers in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Monday at Lincoln High School.

Brost struck out four and was able to keep the Tigers from crossing the plate in seven innings, handing Marshfield (2-3) a loss in its WVC opener. Rapids improves to 4-1 and 1-1 in the Valley.

Miranda Baierl took the loss for Marshfield, giving up one run in 2 2/3 innings after walking three. Caitlyn Kozik finished up the game for the Tigers, allowing four runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Vikki Getsinger hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to cap the scoring for the Raiders.

“Defensively we played well and pitching-wise, we did OK, but the three walks in there didn’t help us at all,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “They came up with some big hits when they needed them and Allison Brost did a good job of keeping us from getting a big inning going.”

Marshfield is scheduled to play a doubleheader against Wausau West on Thursday at the Central Wisconsin Fairgrounds. The twinbill will start at 4 p.m.
