WAUSAU – The Marshfield softball team won its first games of the season in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, sweeping a doubleheader from Wausau West 6-3 and 7-2 on Saturday at West High School.
The Tigers are now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the WVC. West drops to 0-8 and 0-4 in the conference.
Miranda Baierl threw 4 2/3 innings to earn the win in Game 1 for the Tigers.
Marshfield scored three runs in the first inning thanks to five West errors.
Katie Treankler was 2-for-3 with two doubles, and Autumn Slowiak and Mary Kloos each had two hits for Marshfield, which had nine hits overall.
“The defense did a great job in this game with no errors and Miranda and Caitlyn (Kozik) pitched a good game,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “Katie Treankler had a couple of big doubles for us to get us some extra runs.”
Caitlyn Kozik won the second game for the Tigers, scattering six hits and four walks in a complete-game effort.
Baierl and Slowiak each had two hits to lead Marshfield’s offense.
Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Monday and has a doubleheader at Merrill on Tuesday.
