Marshfield Chaparrals beat Tilden, pound Whittlesey for first two wins of season

WHITTLESEY – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team pounded out 15 hits and Ryan Metz tossed a complete-game shutout in a 14-0 win over Whittlesey on Saturday.

The win came a day after Marshfield edged Tilden 6-4 in its home opener Friday night.

Metz struck out seven, walked one and scattered six hits in the seven-inning complete game for the Chaparrals (2-3) in the victory over Whittlesey.

Luke Wirtz, Zackary Iverson and Eric Pritzl each went 3-for-5 for Marshfield, with Wirtz driving in five runs. Sam Schwanebeck added two doubles and scored three times.

On Friday, Alex Steines allowed just one run in five innings of relief to pace the Chaps to the win in their home opener at Jack Hackman Field.

Schwanbeck and two hits and two RBIs, and Pritzl had two hits and scored three times for Marshfield.

Marshfield plays at Abbotsford on Monday.
