Columbus Catholic/Spencer’s Ben Alt finishes ninth at WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional

CUMBERLAND – Columbus Catholic/Spencer sophomore Ben Alt tied for ninth with an 82 and came up two shots short of a state tournament berth at the 2014 WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional at Cumberland Golf Club on Tuesday.

Alt, who won the Adams-Friendship regional at Northern Bay Resort last week, had a 10-over par 82 to finish in a six-way tie for ninth place. Gabby Curtis of Altoona (76), Jordan Duffy of Hayward (78) and Michael McDonald of Hayward (80) earned the three individual qualifier spots.

Osceola (315) and Ellsworth (338) topped the team standings to also earn berths at the 2014 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships next Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona.
