MARSHFIELD – Senior quarterback Derek Coffren threw a school-record five touchdown passes as the Marshfield football team ended a two-game losing streak with a 48-28 victory over Oshkosh West on Friday night at Beell Stadium.
Marshfield won its first Valley Football Association South Division game of the season, improving to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Oshkosh West is now 2-3 and 1-2 in the conference as well.
Coffren threw three touchdown passes to Kegan Fassler, and one each to Tanner Boson and Zach McManus to set the school record for most TD passes in a game. He beat the old record of four set by five others and Coffren, who had four TDs in a win over Wausau East on Aug. 30.
Fassler caught eight passes for 167 yards and three scores of 51, 21 and 39 yards.
Drew Hanson had a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and McManus added two field goals and six extra points to provide the scoring for the Tigers.
Oshkosh West quarterback Alex Lowney tossed three touchdown passes in the loss, but also threw five interceptions, and backup Sawyer McCue also threw two picks.
Sam Klein had three of the Tigers’ seven interceptions.
Marshfield plays at Hortonville (3-2, 2-1 VFA South) next Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on wdlbwosq.com and WDLB-AM 1450.
