ATHENS – Stratford junior Johnelle Miner outran Chequamegon’s Hailey BeBeau to the finish to take third in the girls race at the 2014 Marawood Conference Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Erbach Park.
Miner edged BeBeau by 1/10th of a second to finish third in 20:55.7. Kaylee Hollatz was seventh in 21:10.1 to help Stratford to a fourth-place finish in the girls team standings.
Phillips won the girls team title with three top-10 finishes. Anna Buchberger of Marathon was the individual champion, winning in 20:17.0.
Auburndale finished eighth. Kali Karl took eighth in 21:17.9 and Abby Bauer was 22nd in 22:26.6 to lead the Apaches.
Chequamegon had the top two finishers and four out of the top eight to take the boys team title.
Kevin Koski of Chequamegon won the race in 16:20.8, 39 seconds ahead of teammate Cameron Pearson, who was second.
Stratford took fifth and Auburndale was 10th.
Cade Lehman took 13th (18:18.7), Lucas Heidmann was 14th (18:22.4) and John Geissinger finished 20th (18:38.9) for the Tigers.
Cody Gehrke led Auburndale, taking 31st in 19:08.6.
Stratford and Auburndale will both compete at the WIAA Division 3 sectional on Oct. 24 on the same course in Athens.
