Spencer girls, Columbus Catholic boys each fourth at Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet

EAU CLAIRE – Spencer’s Nadia King and Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s Ben Behling each grabbed top-five spots and all-conference first-team honors on Saturday at the 2014 Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet at City Wells Park.

King, a recent transfer from Stratford, finished fourth for the Spencer girls in 20:38.76, 55 seconds behind winner Emily Jaeger of Fall Creek.

Kaitlin Kasch finished 19th (21:35.96) and Sam Fuehrer was 21st (21:43.53) for the Rockets, who finished fourth in the team standings. Eau Claire Regis won the girls team title.

Columbus Catholic only had four runners and did not have a team score. Hannah Grubofski led the Dons, taking 27th in 22:38.42.

Behling took fifth place for the Columbus Catholic boys, finishing in 17:10.56, 49 seconds in back of winner Sam Bach of overall conference team champion Colby/Abbotsford.

Leonard Steinert was 17th (17:41.34) and Jeremy Binder took 18th (17:44.19) for the Dons, who ended up fourth in the team standings.

Spencer finished 10th. Donovan Fox led the Rockets, as he has done all season, taking 16th in 17:41.07.

Spencer and Columbus Catholic will compete at the WIAA Division 3 Sectional at Athens on Friday, Oct. 24, at Erbach Park. The top two teams and top five individuals not on those teams, for both the boys and the girls, will qualify for the 2014 WIAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
