AUBURNDALE – Defending sectional champion Auburndale wasted little time to rout Necedah 3-0 in its 2014 volleyball playoff opener Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches, the No. 2 seed, won 25-10, 25-11, 25-19, in the WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal. Auburndale will host No. 3 Stevens Point Pacelli at 7 p.m. Thursday in a regional semifinal.
Auburndale reached the WIAA Division 3 state tournament finals last season, losing 3-1 to Eau Claire Regis.
Shannon Yahnke had 11 kills and five aces, Taylor Gotz added eight kills, Cheyenne Karl had eight digs, and Sydney Schmutzer had 22 assists and six digs for the Apaches.
Katie Leick added four aces and Robyn Brokish and Jenna Peplinski each had five digs for Auburndale.
