Spencer/Columbus Catholic football holds off Columbus in WIAA Division 4 Level 1 playoff

COLUMBUS – Spencer/Columbus Catholic scored three touchdowns in a span of 5 minutes in the second quarter and held on from there to beat Columbus 22-17 in a WIAA Division 4 Level 1 football playoff game Friday night at Columbus High School.

Columbus blocked a punt and recovered at the 2-yard line early in the second quarter, but Spencer/Columbus held and forced a field goal.

The Rockets got their offense going on their next possession.

Calvin Lenz scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, then tossed a 70-yard TD pass to Mitch Susa the next time the Rockets had the ball.

Noah Zastrow capped the scoring with an interception return for a touchdown, putting the Rockets up 22-3.

Columbus scored with less than 1 minute left in the third quarter and in the final 2 minutes of the fourth quarter to make it close, but the Rockets were able to hold on.

Spencer/Columbus (7-3) will play at No. 1 seed Wautoma (9-1) in a Level 2 at 7 p.m. Friday. Wautoma knocked off Campbellsport 35-14 on Friday.
