Columbus Catholic soccer drops WIAA Division 4 sectional final to Barron

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team’s impressive season came to an end Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Barron in a WIAA Division 4 sectional final at Griese Park.

The Dons finish the season with Mid-State Soccer Conference and regional titles, and a 15-5-3 record.

Barron (17-4-1) moves on to a Division 4 state semifinal against Milwaukee St. Thomas More on Thursday at the 2014 WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament in Milwaukee.

Barron scored with a little more than 2 minutes left in the second 10-minute overtime period on a header following a corner kick to pull out the victory.

Charles Payant scored Columbus Catholic’s only goal during the second half.

Evan Hansen had nine saves in goal for the Dons.
