Auburndale girls basketball cruises to season-opening win against Nekoosa

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team rolled to a big lead in the first half and never looked back, crushing Nekoosa 50-19 in its 2014-15 season opener Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale led 13-3 after the first quarter and 27-5 at halftime. To make matters worse for Nekoosa, the Apaches held them to just one point in the third quarter, building a 35-point advantage.

Paiton Richardson scored 14 points and Shannon Yahnke had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Apaches.

Eight different Auburndale players scored in the rout.

Auburndale plays at La Crosse Logan in a nonconference game on Friday.
