WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, then won it with a run in the bottom of the eighth, beating Auburndale 8-7 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday.

Auburndale trailed 4-1 until scoring five runs in the sixth and another in the sevent to take a 7-4 lead into the final one-half inning, before the Royals rallied.

Heather Nigh, Kayleigh Kundinger and Katie Willfahrt each had two hits and an RBI for the Apaches, who also got RBIs from Kayla Gotz and Stacy Brokish.

Gotz took the loss, walking three in the final 1 1/3 innings in relief of Bailee Krajnik, who had eight walks.

“We played a solid game tonight (only two errors), but just couldn’t come up with the last three outs when needed,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “Freshmen pitchers Bailee and Kayla gained some great experience.”

The Apaches play at Wausau Newman on Friday.
