Auburndale’s Momont, Columbus Catholic’s Hutchison win events at season-opening Point Track Invitational

STEVENS POINT – A number of local track and field teams started their 2015 season at the Point Invitational last Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Marshfield placed 14th (17 points), Auburndale tied for 15th (16), and Columbus Catholic tied for 19th (11) in the girls invite, which was held Friday. The Marshfield boys competed Saturday and had just one top-eight finish to end up with three points as it competed with a limited team in the boys invite.

Auburndale’s Sylviann Momont won the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 5½ inches, and placed third in the long jump with a jump of 15-11½ to lead the Apaches’ girls.

Marshfield’s top finishes came from Ashley Holubets, who was third in the 400 meters in a time of 1:04.18, and Martha Kupfer, who took third in the triple jump with a leap of 33-4.

Kupfer also took sixth in the 800 meters in 2:31.83, and the Tigers had two relay teams place eighth. Madeline Chaltry, Angelina Dunomes, Emma Boson and Courtney Brown took eighth in the 800 relay in 1:58.38, and the team of Alexa Aumann, Brown, Holubets and Dani Bender was eighth in the 1,600 relay in 4:30.24.

Columbus Catholic’s lone top-eight finishes came from Alexandra Hutchison, who won the 400 in 1:00.02 and was eighth in the 55 meters in 7.93 seconds.

Marshfield senior Chris Pahl took sixth in the triple jump at the boys invite Saturday with a jump of 39-8 for the Tigers’ only top-eight finish.

Auburndale will be among the teams that compete in the Marshfield Boys Indoor Invitational on Tuesday and the Marshfield Girls Indoor Invitational on Thursday.
