Columbus Catholic’s Alexandra Hutchison takes double-gold at 2015 WIAA State Track & Field Meet

LA CROSSE – Marshfield Columbus Catholic junior Alexandra Hutchison pulled off a double-gold on Saturday at the 2015 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, winning the Division 3 girls 100 and 200 meters.

Hutchison repeated as D-3 200 champion, taking this year’s final in 25.71 seconds, this coming a day after setting the new Division 3 state record in the event with a time of 24.91 in preliminaries.

Hutchison won the 100 in 12.82 seconds. She finished fourth in that event last year.

Also earning a medal for Columbus Catholic was senior Christian Payant, who was second in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Payant, who qualified fourth for the finals, finished in a time of 39.78, 1.15 seconds faster than his qualifying time.

Morgan Malm of Loyal won the event in 39.78 seconds, and he also took first in the 110 hurdles in 15.43. Malm won the 110 title last year as well, while finishing second in the 300 hurdles.

The Spencer girls also picked up a pair of Division 3 medals, both coming in the pole vault.

Sophomore Johanna Ellefson placed second (10 feet, 9 inches) and senior Rachel Zastrow was third (10-3) to earn medals for the Rockets. Zastrow won the event last year and earned her fourth medal in the pole vault during her career. She was fifth as a freshman and second in 2013.

Zastrow also competed in three other events on Saturday, but did not earn any more hardware.

Zastrow was eighth in the 100 hurdles in 16.60, 10th in the 300 hurdles in 49.87, and was part of the 1,600 relay team, along with Liz Endreas, Nadia King and Paige Lawrence, that finished 10th in 4:18.80.

Auburndale’s Lee Jepsen and Sylivann Momont, and Stratford’s Jacob Zuelke also competed on Saturday but did not earn a top-six medal.

Jepsen was ninth in the Division 3 boys 200 meters, finishing in 23.65 seconds. The event was won by Athens’ Aaron Wickman in 22.18 seconds.

Momont, who took 16th in the long jump Friday, was seventh in the triple jump on Saturday with a leap of 35 feet. She missed a medal by just 3¾ inches.

Zuelke competed in the Division 2 boys 800 and placed 14th in 2:03.53. He was the only Stratford representative at the state meet this year.
