Spencer’s Mitch Susa, Marisa Johnson earn all-state honors for baseball, softball

Seniors Mitch Susa and Marisa Johnson have capped off their decorated athletic careers at Spencer High School with top honors after being named to the all-state teams in their respective sports for the spring season.

Susa was an honorable mention selection on the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association all-state team after hitting .476 for the Rockets.

Susa was also a first-team all-Cloverbelt Conference East Division selection after helping Spencer to a 20-5 record and a 15-1 mark in the conference to tie Neillsville for the title.

Johnson, who was the Cloverbelt East softball Player of the Year, was a third-team all-state selection by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.

Johnson, a shortstop, was the team’s leadoff hitter this season as the Rockets went 21-4 and were a perfect 14-0 in winning the Cloverbelt East championship.

Among the other area baseball players to earn all-state honors were Athens’ outfielder Shane Coker (first team), Neillsville infielder Neal Matson (second team), Marathon pitcher Ryan Gassner (third team), Stevens Point pitcher Alex Lee (honorable mention), utility player Noel Winch (honorable mention) and infielder Trevor Anderson (honorable mention), and Wausau West outfielder Peyton Nelson (honorable mention). Coker was picked as the North Central District II Player of the Year, and was named State Player of the Year along with La Crosse Aquinas’ Rudy Rott and Oconomowoc’s Logan Wonn.

Central Wisconsin players picked to the all-state softball team were D.C. Everest outfielder Makayla Pagel (first team), Mosinee outfielder Bailey Schultz (first team), Stevens Point pitcher Aubrey Drohner (first team), Stevens Point outfielder Ally Miklesh (second team), Mosinee pitcher Rochelle Koshalek (second team), Stevens Point infielder Shaylee Kluck (third team), Stevens Point Pacelli outfielder Sami Kay Shafranski (third team), Wisconsin Rapids outfielder Madison Bogie (third team), and Athens pitcher Kyncaide Diedrich (third team).
