Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Junior Legion wins home tournament, sweeps Point

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Junior Legion baseball team won five games in a row over a four-day stretch to finish its regular season with an 18-8 record.

The Blue Demons won their home tournament on July 10-11, sweeping three games.

On July 10, Marshfield beat Pittsville 15-1 and Chippewa Falls 12-0.

In the win over Pittsville, Hunter Korger struck out 17 in a complete-game effort. Paul Maguire had two hits and two RBIs, and Braden Bohman had a triple and scored three runs for Marshfield.

Against Chippewa Falls, Connor Jasurda tossed a complete-game shutout. Korger, Scotty Berg and Austin Goode each had three hits for the Blue Demons.

In the championship game on July 11, Marshfield ripped La Crosse Aquinas 16-1. Logan Jakobi threw a complete game to earn the win and also was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Sawyer Lovstad went 3-for-3 and Billy Young had two hits for the Blue Demons.

Marshfield finished its regular-season schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Stevens Point on Monday at Jack Hackman Field. The Blue Demons won 9-7 and 15-5.

In Game 1, Zach Needham threw 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. Bohman had a single and a triple, Korger singled and doubled, and Berg and Logan Matson each had two singles for Marshfield.

Jasurda threw four innings and allowed one run to grab the win in the second game. Michael Damrau walked three times and tripled, and Matson, Maguire, Bohman and Korger each had two hits apiece for Marshfield.

The Blue Demons were scheduled to open Class AAA U17 regional play Thursday night at Stevens Point. The double-elimination tournament, which also includes Merrill and Plover, concludes on Saturday.
