Spencer volleyball fourth at Marathon Early Bird Invite

MARATHON – The Spencer volleyball team had a tough day at the Marathon Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, finishing 2-3 to take fourth place.

Spencer defeated Northland Lutheran 25-15, 25-10, and Stratford 25-17, 25-21, and lost to Phillips 25-22, 25-22, Marathon 25-22, 25-16, and Loyal/Granton 17-25, 25-19, 15-11.

“It was a long day for us,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We just kept beating ourselves. The talent is here, we just need to find some motivation. It will be a long, hard week preparing for our next match.”

Macie Weber had 34 kills and 15 blocks in the five matches for Spencer. Sydney Kind added 23 kills and 11 service aces, McKenzie Bainer had 64 assists, and Jenna Rogers had 60 digs for the Rockets.

Spencer’s next match is a nonconference dual at Westfield on Thursday.
