Stevens Point blanks Marshfield boys soccer, climbs over Tigers in WVC standings

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield took a big hit as it tries to work its way toward a Wisconsin Valley Conference title with a 3-0 loss to Stevens Point on Thursday at Griese Park.

After a scoreless first half, Nate Napiwocki scored twice, both off assists from Joey Dorgan, in a 7-minute span for Stevens Point. Jordan Schreiber added a goal 9 minutes later to finish the scoring.

Ryan Weber saved all three shots he saw in goal for the Panthers, who move into second place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with the win and are now 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

Marshfield drops in the standings and is now 6-6-2 overall and 5-3 in the WVC with four games remaining.

Mathias Holm had eight saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield’s next game is Tuesday night at Wisconsin Rapids.
