MARSHFIELD – Allyson Dehnel scored twice for Wausau East, the final goal coming 6 minutes into the second half, to send the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday at Griese Park.

Marshfield’s only goal came on a penalty kick from Julia Urban at the 11:54 mark of the first half following a hand ball by East after the Tigers had a corner kick.

Dehnel connected on her first goal in the 31st minute to tie it and slammed home the game-winner early in the second half.

East is now 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Marshfield falls to 3-11 and 1-5 in the Valley.

Marshfield held a 11-3 advantage in corner kicks but could not capitalize, other than after the hand ball that led to its only goal.

“Even though we had the ball on the East half of the field for the majority of the game, we did not connect passes like we have done recently,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “We need to regain some confidence before the season is over.”

Marshfield hosts Wausau West at 5 p.m. Thursday at Griese Park.
