Spencer, Columbus Catholic each have seven champions at 2016 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track Meet

COLBY – The Spencer boys finished second and both the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys and girls were third at the 2016 Eastern Cloverbelt Conference Track & Field Meet on Tuesday at Colby High School.

Neillsville/Granton won both team championships, the girls by just 10 points over Spencer. The Spencer boys were fourth in the eight-team meet.

Columbus Catholic and Spencer each won seven events.

Senior Alexandra Hutchison led the way for the Dons girls, repeating as conference champion in the 100 (12.68 seconds) and 200 meters (26.21), and adding the 400 title (59.33) to her resume.

Also winning the Columbus girls was the 3,200 relay team of Morgan Albrecht, Becca Wirthlin, Hannah Grubofski and Natalie Pospyhalla, finishing with a time of 11:05.89.

Spencer’s Nadia King repeated as the 1,600-meter run champion, finishing in 5:50.21. She also finished second to Hutchison in the 400 and 200.

Other girls champions for Spencer were Sabrina Vircks, who won the high jump (5 feet) and triple jump (33-0), and Johanna Ellefson, who took first in the pole vault (9-6).

On the boys side, Noah Zastrow won the pole vault (13-6) and Max Johnson was the shot put champion (51-4) for Spencer.

Taking first for Columbus Catholic were Farid Torbey in the high jump (6-2), the 3,200 relay team of Leonard Steinert, Jon Viegut, Peyton Nystrom and Jeremiah Giles (9:07.92) and the 400 relay team of Elijah Welsh, Leo Pittsley, David Nielsen and Torbey (46.48).

Spencer and Columbus Catholic will compete in the WIAA Division 3 regional on Monday at Marathon.
