TOMAH – The Marshfield boys tennis team took first place at the 2016 WIAA Division 1 subsectionals on Monday, moving two individuals and two doubles teams on to sectionals.

The Tigers totaled 18 points, four better than Tomah. Marshfield will take those points into the sectional Wednesday at Stevens Point with the hopes of winning that and advancing to the WIAA State Team Tennis Tournament in Madison on June 10-11. The Eau Claire North subsectional teams will also compete at Stevens Point.

Moving on to the sectionals as individuals for Marshfield are Sam Haessly (14-11) at No. 3 singles, Craig Paulman (17-5) at No. 4 singles, the No. 1 doubles team of Evan Fait and Derek Reckner (14-1), and the No. 3 doubles team of Isaac Houk and Luke Kaiser (18-4).

Only the No. 1 doubles team of Fait and Reckner are eligible to move on to the WIAA State Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison on June 2-4. The Tigers’ duo would have to finish in the top four at the sectional to qualify automatically, or wait for a possible extra qualifier spot that is chosen by the WIAA. The other Marshfield sectional qualifiers will play for crucial team points for the Tigers.
