SPENCER – The Spencer softball team couldn’t hold on to an early three-run lead and fell 6-3 to Athens in a nonference game Monday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets (16-5) led 3-0 after two innings before Athens (17-4) scored six runs over the final four innings, including three in the fifth, to pull out the win.

Tiffany Meinders suffered the loss, allowing five runs in three innings of relief. She did have two of Spencer’s six hits. Lexi Beahr had a double and two RBIs as well for the Rockets.

Spencer will host the winner of Tuesday’s playoff game between Auburndale and Loyal/Granton in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Spencer High School.
