SPENCER – Macie Weber hit a grand slam in a 12-run second inning to help the Spencer softball team to a convincing 14-4 victory over Loyal/Granton in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal Thursday at Spencer High School.

Spencer (17-5), the No. 2 seed in its half of the D-3 sectional bracket, will host Marathon in a regional final at 5 p.m. Friday.

Spencer scored twice in the first inning before erupting in the second, smacking eight hits and walking four times on its way to the 12-run inning.

“We had a huge second inning, which pretty much decided things,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “I was very happy with our team enthusiasm and energy.”

Weber earned the win on the mound, striking out seven in five innings.

Weber, Cinnamin Harwood, Lexi Beahr and Kallie Reckner each had two hits for the Rockets, who had 11 in all.
