VERONA – Columbus Catholic/Spencer senior Ben Alt shot an 83 at the second day of the 2016 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament to finish in a tie for 23rd place in the Division 2 field at University Ridge Golf Club.
Alt, who shot a 79 and was tied for 13th after Day 1, had an 11-over par score on Tuesday to tie with Thomas Longbella of Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis for 23rd, 15 shots behind winner Matt Bachmann of Sheboygan Falls.
Bachmann had an even-par 72 and a three-over 75 to finish the two-day tournament at 3-over and won by three over Jacob Michel of Lodi.
Alt only had two pars on the front nine and shot an eight-over par 44. He finished strong with a three-over 39 on the back nine with six pars and three bogeys.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial won the D-2 team title with a score of 15-over par 621, 12 shots ahead of Madison Edgewood Sacred Heart.
Marshfield junior Derek Michalski wrapped up his play at the state tournament with a nine-over par 81, four shots better that his opening round 85 on Monday. Michalski finished at 22-over par and in an eight-way tie for 75th place in Division 1.
Emmet Herb of Middleton rolled to the individual title in D-1, shooting a six-under par 138 (68-70) on the par 72 course. He won by seven shots over Harrison Ott of Milwaukee Marquette and Matt Tolan of Eau Claire North.
Michalski had a pair of birdies Tuesday, on the fourth and 18th holes, and seven pars on his round of 38-43.
Both Alt and Michalski were playing in their first state tournaments.
Milwaukee Marquette won the team title in Division 1 with a score of 22-over 598, eight shots ahead of Middleton.
Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs won the Division 3 team title with a 53-over par 629, 27 shots in front of second-place Cochrane-Fountain City. Tyler Leach of Spring Valley won the individual title with a two-round total of 2-over par 146, six shots ahead of Patrick Treichel of St. Mary’s Springs.
