Marshfield Senior Legion baseball finishes 3-1 at Sheboygan Tournament

SHEBOYGAN – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team went 3-1 at the weather-shortened Sheboygan Legion Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Wildwood Park.

The Blue Devils lost their opener to Madison Impact 12-2 on Friday before coming back to beat Menasha 6-5. On Saturday, Marshfield whipped Green Bay Southwest 12-2 and Ash-Port 13-0 in a pair of games shortened due to the 10-run rule. Sunday’s game was rained out.

Marshfield is now 11-3 this season and return to Wisconsin Valley Legion League action Monday at home against D.C. Everest. Game time at Jack Hackman Field is 7 p.m.

In the loss to Madison, all nine Blue Devils’ starters had one hit each, but they could only muster two runs on RBI singles by Braden Bohman and Jared Klein.

Marshfield pulled out a win over Menasha with a run in the seventh inning, handing Trevor Schwecke the victory after he threw one shutout inning in relief. Nate McDonald was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Jack Donahue had two hits and three RBIs, and Bohman scored twice for the Blue Devils.

Bobby Pilz earned the win over Southwest, striking out five in four innings. McDonald again went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot for Marshfield with a pair of doubles. Klein and Cole Hoffmann each had three hits and two runs scored, and Donahue and Bohman both had two hits for the Blue Devils.

In the rout of Ash-Port, Schwecke had nine strikeouts and allowed just one walk and four hits to earn the five-inning shutout. Donahue and Jake Brueggen each had three hits, Paul Maguire had three hits and five RBIs, and Schwecke chipped in with two hits and two RBIs for Marshfield.
