Athens track athlete Autumn Wickman has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com June High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Wickman received about 45 percent of the 913 votes cast.

Other nominees for the June award were Spencer track athlete Johanna Ellefson, Marshfield Columbus Catholic track athlete Alexandra Hutchison, and Thorp softball player Lizzy Schimke.

Wickman won the Division 3 girls 400 meters in 56.45 seconds at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in La Crosse on June 4. Wickman also finished second in the 200 meters in 25.11 seconds, and was part of the Bluejays’ 800-meter relay team, along with Ashley Perkins, Kaylyn Schreiner and Brittany Ange, that took fifth in 1:46.70 to give her three medals at the meet.

Wickman joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September), Spencer/Columbus football player Noah Zastrow (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Ema Fehrenbach (November), Stratford wrestling Jeremy Schoenherr (December), Stratford girls basketball player Savannah Schillinger (January), Marshfield gymnast Emma Haugen (February), Marshfield track athlete Calden Wojt (March), Athens softball player Hanna Ellenbecker (April), and Marshfield softball player Megan Donahue (May) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.

The WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year for 2015-16 will be announced July 10.

The Athlete of the Month award will return in September.
