MARSHFIELD – A Class AAA American Legion baseball regional will be held this week at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.

Five teams will be vying for a slot in next week’s Wisconsin Class AAA American Legion State Baseball Tournament, which also will be held in Marshfield.

Play begins Tuesday with opening-round games in the double-elimination tournament. Marshfield (21-5) hosts Stevens Point in the opener at 1 p.m., followed by Plover vs. D.C. Everest at 4 p.m. The winner of the first game will play Wausau in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

Play continues Wednesday and Thursday, with the championship game set for 7 p.m. Thursday. If the loser of that game suffers its first loss in the tournament, the final championship game will be played at 4 p.m. Friday.

The winner of the regional moves on to the state tournament in Marshfield, which will be held July 26-30 as eight teams from around the state will compete in a double-elimination tournament. Marshfield, as the host team, is automatically in the field, so if it would win the regional, the second-place team will advance to the state tournament.

Four games will dot the state tournament schedule beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, and Wednesday, July 27. Three games are scheduled for July 28, starting at 12:30 p.m., and two games will be played July 29 starting at 4 p.m. The championship round will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, with a second game immediately following if necessary.

The winner of the Wisconsin state tournament advances to the Great Lakes Regional at Edwardsville, Ill., on Aug. 3-7 where teams will compete for a spot in the Class AAA American Legion Baseball World Series in Shelby, N.C. on Aug. 13-18.
