MARSHFIELD – A thunderstorm rolled through Marshfield late Wednesday morning, postponing play at the Class AAA American Legion Baseball Regional.

Games resumed at 4 p.m. and Stevens Point defeated Plover 9-5 in an elimination game in the five-team, double-elimination tournament at Jack Hackman Field.

Wausau went on to beat D.C. Everest 10-2 in a winner’s bracket game at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with the Wausau moving on to the championship round on Friday.

Marshfield, which had been scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Wednesday, will now play Stevens Point in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Thursday. The winner will play D.C. Everest at 7 p.m. in another elimination game. The survivor moves on to play in the championship round against Wausau beginning at 1 p.m. Friday. Should Wausau lose, thus suffering its first loss of the tournament, the two teams will play again immediately afterward at approximately 4 p.m.

The winner of the regional tournament earns a spot in next week’s Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Class AAA State Tournament, which will also be held at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield. Should Marshfield win the tournament, the second-place team would earn a spot in the state tournament, as Marshfield automatically qualifies as the host team.
