Big-play offense lifts Spencer/Columbus football past Fall Creek

FALL CREEK – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic big-play offense was on display Friday night at Fall Creek High School.

The Rockets scored five touchdowns from at least 32 yards out, including three from 60 or more, and cruised to a 44-21 win over Fall Creek in a Cloverbelt Conference football game.

Spencer/Columbus improves to 2-0 overall and in the conference, while Fall Creek drops to 0-2 overall in the conference.

Hunter Luepke scored three touchdowns and rushed 151 yards, and Noah Zastrow had 136 yards on the ground, including a 75-yard touchdown run, and caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jarred Mandel.

“We were able to convert on third down to move the ball,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst said. “It was definitely a physical game. We’re proud of the guys, but we have work to do.”

Luepke scored on a 13-yard pass from Zastrow midway through the first quarter and added a 69-yard TD run to put SC up 16-0.

Ethan Meece caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Mandel to make it 22-8 at halftime.

Luepke scored on a 32-yard run and Zastrow scored on the long reception to put the Rockets in control at 36-8. Zastrow added a 75-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

The Rockets outgained Fall Creek 316-199 on the ground, averaging 9.6 yards per carry.

Spencer/Columbus hosts Stanley-Boyd in a big Cloverbelt game next Friday at Spencer High School. Stanley-Boyd lost to Eau Claire Regis 37-30 on Friday.
