STEVENS POINT – Jordan Dzikowich earned a medal with a 14th-place finish and helped the Marshfield boys cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Stevens Point Area Senior High Invitational on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.
Dzikowich finished in 17:41.1, a little more than one minute behind Stevens Point’s Jonny Hyland, who won the meet in 16:36.7.
Jared Oemig was 34th (18:12.3) and Paul Fischer was 38th (18:17.1) to provide the Tigers with two more top-40 finishes.
Stevens Point won the boys title with 28 points as it earned the top three individual finishes. Marshfield had 195 points.
“Jordan Dzikowich ran a good time early in the season on the sectional course,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Our boys showed that they are much improved this year, yet we can run a lot better as a team than we showed today.”
Auburndale finished 17th. Carver Empey led the Apaches, taking 91st in 20:10.3.
The Auburndale girls took 13th and Marshfield was 16th out of 21 teams with 390 points. Point also won the team title, scoring 60 points.
Jada Donaldson of Beaver Dam won the girls race in 19:29.6.
Isabella Jewell finished 24th in 21:01.8 and Kali Karl was 52nd in 22:10.9 for Auburndale’s top finishes.
Madysen Bohman took 48th (22:06.3) and Lilly O’Brien was 49th (22:07.4) for the Tigers.
Auburndale will compete at the Stratford Invitational on Tuesday, and the Apaches and Marshfield will be among the many area teams at the Smiley Invitational in Wausau next Saturday.
