MARSHFIELD – The defense did what it could to keep the Marshfield football team in the game, but in the end, a lack of offense for the second-straight week was too much to overcome for the Tigers in their homecoming contest..

Marshfield was held to just 114 total yards as it lost its fourth game in a row, falling 21-0 to Oshkosh North in a Valley Football Association South Division game Friday night at Beell Stadium.

Jordan Roen ran for two touchdowns and Cameron Swanson hauled in five passes for 121 yards and a score for North (4-4, 4-3 VFA South), which clinches a spot in the WIAA playoffs with the win.

North took the opening kickoff and drove 89 yards on 14 plays. Despite three false start penalties, the Spartans picked up five first downs on the drive, chewed up the first 5:16 of the game, and scored on a 6-yard run by Roen.

After a three-and-out, the Spartans drove down to the Tigers’ 40 before an interception by Jon Howlett ended te drive.

Marshfield’s offense couldn’t manage much, however, picking up just two first downs in the first half and the 7-0 score held to halftime.

A promising drive for the Tigers to open the second half ended with an interception and North turned around and drove 75 yards in 11 plays with Swanson catching an 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Alex Kujawa to make it 14-0.

Marshfield had a drive reach the Spartans’ 14 early in the fourth quarter before an illegal block penalty set the Tigers back and they eventually turned it over on downs at the 20.

North’s final score came on a 6-yard run by Roen with 5:13 to go following a 38-yard pass play from Kujawa to Swanson.

Marshfield (2-6, 1-6 VFA South) will wrap up its season next Friday at Fond du Lac.
