Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball player Kendra Baierl has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com September High School Athlete of the Month.

The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.

Baierl received 560 of the nearly 1,400 votes cast.

Other nominees for the September award were Marshfield boys soccer player Luke McCann, Owen-Withee football player Kole Karaba, Stratford football player Kamren Bornbach, and Edgar volleyball player Macey Wirkus.

Baierl, a 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker, has helped lift the Dons off to the most promising season they have had a long while. Baierl passed the 1,000-kill mark for her career with 36 kills in a 3-2 loss to Spencer on Sept. 29, the first Cloverbelt Conference East Division loss by the Dons. Baierl had 311 through Sept. 29, including 81 at the Abbotsford Tournament on Sept. 24.
