EDGAR – Edgar used a five-run first inning and a six-run third inning to blow past Auburndale 14-7 in a WIAA Division 3 softball regional quarterfinal Thursday at Edgar High School.

Auburndale took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Edgar responded with five runs off Auburndale pitcher Nicole Nikolay in the bottom of the inning, and knocked out the Apaches pitcher in the third when it scored six more.

Kelli Isaacson was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Katie Willfahrt and Kayleigh Kundinger each added two hits for the Apaches.

Mariah Kohl was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored to lead Edgar’s attack.

“We had some nice hits to start out the game and then Edgar’s defense stepped up and made some great plays,” Auburndale coach Dawn Urban said. “We couldn’t get the hits through when we had runners on base.”

Auburndale’s season end with a 5-16 record. Edgar (5-10) moves on to a regional semifinal Tuesday at No. 1 seed Stratford (19-2).
