MARSHFIELD – Brooke McGrath won the vault for Marshfield’s only event victory, but the Tigers did enough to edge Chippewa Falls 124.775-123.875 in a nonconference dual meet to opens their 2016-17 season on Monday at Marshfield High School.

McGrath won the vault with a score of 8.5 for Marshfield’s only first-place finish.

McGrath also took second in the floor exercise with a score of 8.65, Macey Smith tied for second in the vault (8.35) and Emma Haugen was second in the uneven bars (7.95) for the Tigers.

“It was a pretty good start to our competition season, but we definitely have more potential than demonstrated tonight,” Marshfield coach Allie Dryer said. “We were significantly stronger last week at our intrasquad competition, so we’ll go back into the gym to focus on execution this week until our next competition this Saturday at the Rhinelander Varsity Invite. We also hope to put in a few new skills this Saturday in order to compete with the strong competition.”
