MARSHFIELD – Hudson scored the first six points of the game and Marshfield never recovered as it dropped a 69-51 decision to the Raiders in the opening round of the 8th Annual Marshfield Tiger Girls Basketball Invitational on Wednesday night at Marshfield High School.

Hudson (7-2) cruised out to a 14-4 lead in the first 5:40 of the game and the Tigers never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Lexi Jonas hit five 3-pointers in the first half for Hudson and finished with a game-high 17 points.

Marshfield (2-5) closed to within 33-25 after a 3-pointer from Meg Bryan and a free throw by Jenna Jakobi with just more than 2 minutes to go in the first half, but the Tigers would only score one more point in the half and trailed by 12 at the break.

Hudson came out of intermission and scored the first seven points to push its lead to 19. Marshfield responded with six in a row, including a pair of baskets by Jakobi, and cut it to nine on a 3-pointer from Meg Bryan.

However, Marshfield didn’t score for the next 3:20, turning the ball over on four-straight possessions, and fell behind by 15. The Tigers finished with 17 turnovers in the loss and could not get Hudson’s lead back under double digits.

Ema Fehrenbach scored 16 points, making 8 of 10 free throws, and Bryan added 11 points with three 3-pointers for Marshfield.

Wausau West defeated Oshkosh North in the first game Wednesday and will play Hudson at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by North against Marshfield at approximately 3 p.m. Marshfield’s game will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
