Auburndale boys basketball crushes Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – Auburndale hit 10 3-pointers and was 21 of 25 at the free throw line in a resounding 71-24 rout of Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday at Newman Catholic High School.

Auburndale raced out to a 45-16 lead by halftime and held Newman to just eight points in the second half.

Auburndale is now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the Marawood South, and Newman Catholic drops to 3-7 and 1-3 in the conference.

Colton Wright made four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points for the Apaches. Caleb Weinfurter added 15 points, which include three 3-pointers and a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the free throw line.

Auburndale hosts Stratford as part of a Marawood South girls-boys doubleheader on Tuesday. The girls game begins at 5:45 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:15 p.m.
