Fehrenbach, Nikolai lift Marshfield girls basketball past Rhinelander

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls basketball team ran out to a big lead by halftime and held on from there, knocking off Rhinelander 70-48 in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield (13-8) will finish its regular-season schedule Thursday at Wausau West. With a victory, the Tigers would clinch at least a share of the Wisconsin Valley Conference title.

Marshfield led 40-22 at halftime to take control early. The Tigers shot 64 percent (27 of 42) from the field.

Ema Fehrenbachwas 8 of 10 from the field and 8 of 9 at the free throw line to pile up 24 points for the Tigers. She also had a team-high eight rebounds.

Maddie Nikolai added 17 points, six steals and four assists, and Jenna Jakobi was a perfect 5-for-5 shooting and scored 10 points for Marshfield.

Marshfield will play at Chippewa Falls in its WIAA playoff opener, a regional semifinal, Feb. 24.
